What are the active ingredients in the products of the HYLO® family?

Eye drops and eye ointments contain various substances that differ regarding their effect and application. Here you will find an overview of the most important active ingredients in the products of our HYLO® family.

Hyaluronic acid Binds water and lubricates the eye surface

If you suffer from dry eyes, it is best to use eye drops with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in the eye and is therefore particularly well tolerated – even in cases of severe irritation. Its excellent water-binding properties ensure that a protective film forms on the irritated surface of the eye, thus lubricating the conjunctiva and cornea. Our HYLO® products are not only suitable if you occasionally suffer from dry eyes, but also for mild to moderately severe forms of dry eyes as well as for alleviating severe symptoms, e.g. after eye surgery.

Dexpanthenol Lubricates and thus supports wound healing

Our HYLO CARE® eye drops are a combination of high-quality hyaluronic acid and dexpanthenol. The active ingredient dexpanthenol belongs to the group of B vitamins and is also known as provitamin B5. Its water-binding and thus lubricating properties promote the wound healing of damaged skin and mucous membranes. Mild to moderately severe forms of dry eye receive the lubrication and care they need on a daily basis. Dexpanthenol can also promote the regeneration of an already damaged corneal surface.

Ectoine Stabilises the tear film

Ectoine is a natural substance with a high water-binding capacity as well as nourishing and stabilising properties. It binds a large number of water molecules in its immediate vicinity and is thus always surrounded by a dense water pouch. A protective layer is thus formed that stabilises the tear film and thus relieves mild to moderately severe symptoms caused by an unstable tear film. HYLO DUAL® and HYLO DUAL INTENSE® eye drops sustainably lubricates dry eyes with their combination of high-quality hyaluronic acid and ectoine and also help with irritation or allergy-related signs of inflammation, such as itching or burning.

Euphrasia Soothes irritated eyes

The active herbal ingredient Euphrasia is commonly known as eyebright. This meadow flower is widespread in Europe and has been used to treat eye complaints for centuries. The extract soothes stressed, reddened and irritated eyes caused by draughts, fatigue, computer work, or environmental stress. Eye drops containing Euphrasia, such as HYLO FRESH®, have a refreshing effect and relieve irritation of the eye, especially in the case of mild, non-permanent eye symptoms. Irritated eyes enjoy optimal moisturisation and care. The lubricating eye drops can be used several times a day and also over a longer period of time – an ideal companion through your daily routine, which is often stressful for the eyes.

Heparin Lubricates and promotes regeneration

Recurrent, moderately severe dry eye symptoms, such as redness, burning or itching, require effective lubrication and care that also supports regeneration of the eye surface. Here, heparin has a lubricating and regenerative effect due to its high water-binding capacity. Heparin is a natural complex sugar compound that is produced by the body. The active ingredient also helps the eye drops to adhere to the surface of the eye, providing long-lasting protection.

Vitamin A Eye vitamin and natural component of the tear film

Humans absorb vitamin A from food, either in its precursor form, provitamin A, or directly as vitamin A. It is found in carrots, pumpkins, apricots, spinach, tomatoes, dairy products and liver, among other things. The functions of vitamin A (retinol) in the body are manifold: It is needed for bone growth, for reproduction, and for healthy skin. In the eye, vitamin A is required for the production of rhodopsin (visual purple) which is essential, and therefore indispensable, for the visual process. Vitamin A is therefore not regarded as the "eye vitamin" for nothing. Vitamin A is found as a natural component in the tear film. In eye ointments used to treat dry eyes, such as HYLO NIGHT®, it protects the surface of the eye and, together with the physiological tear film, forms a stable layer on the eye surface.
